Winnipeg, MB, March 13, 2025 – The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) will receive up to $1.6 million over 3 years from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), through the AgriCompetitiveness Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, to advance agricultural health and safety across Canada.
“This continued support and commitment of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to the safety and well-being of Canadian farmers is essential to the work that CASA does,” said Sandra Miller, CASA’s Executive Director. “Every dollar supports programs that help to build a safe and sustainable agriculture industry where healthy Canadian farm communities thrive.”
This investment supports critical initiatives, including grain entrapment prevention, farm safety events and resources for children, the collection and dissemination of agricultural fatality data, national leadership on farm health and safety issues, and connecting community partners with information and resources to promote safety and health in agriculture. These efforts work to reduce and eliminate the close-calls, injuries and deaths that occur on Canadian farms each year.
“Our hardworking farmers do so much for us, from putting food on our tables to keeping our economy strong,” said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “This funding will help ensure they are safe and taking care of their own health – both mental and physical – so they can continue doing the vitally important work they do. By supporting farmers and their families, we’re helping to build stronger, safer agricultural sector for everyone.”
This funding announcement coincides with Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW), which runs from March 16-22, 2025. During CASW, Canadians are encouraged to remember #FarmSafetyEveryday and reflect on the vital importance of farm safety for workers, families, and communities.
“With this investment, CASA continues its important work to ensure the safety and well-being of Canadian farmers, their families, and all agricultural workers. Together, we are building a safer future for Canadian agriculture,” said Miller.
